Coming Soon - Wesley Chapel Medical Center! Rendering from Zephyrhills Hospital
The long talked about new Medical Center will be breaking ground at Wiregrass on December 14th. It is planned to be an 80 bed, 200,000 square foot hospital with "room for expansion" and will be situated on Bruce B. Downs Blvd across from the Windfair Professional Office Center and Shoppes of Wesley Chapel (where the Hungry Greek restaurant is located). It will be part of Wiregrass Ranch, a 5000 acre property owned by the Porter family, and site of one of the largest developments on the west coast of Florida.
It will be owned and operated by Adventist Health System, a not-for-profit Orlando based company that recently merged with University Community Hospital.
The President and CEO will be Brian Adams, currently Assistant Vice President for the 341 bed Florida Hospital Altamonte at Altamonte Springs. His first role will be to oversee the construction of the new hospital, which after completion in approximately two years, will offer an emergency department, general surgery, men's and women's services, obstetrics, and pediatrics. The new hospital will make the best use of technology and accommodate "green" construction, as well making use of natural light and gardens to assist in the healing process. Other parts of the new campus will include a helicopter pad, comprehensive medical fitness center, sports medicine, and orthopedics centers and a large administration building.
The developers at Wiregrass Ranch also appear to have obtained approval to move forward on other projects that will create more and more expansion in Wesley Chapel. These include a new branch of Pasco-Hernando Community College, a sports arena, office complex, and a significant amount of hotel space. They will also be responsible for construction of the new roads that will further connect the Wiregrass and Meadow Pointe communities.
It will be interesting to see the effect on commercial real estate in the community as the Wesley Chapel Medical Center begins construction. There is potential that the current glut of office space in the area will be begin to reduce as ancillary services and physicians begin to come to the area to provide the support services that will no doubt be much needed.
